Savage Sprints returns to Hot Italian

Sacramento’s bike-friendly pizzeria Hot Italian has quietly relaunched its Savage Sprints competition for a second year, bringing back the popular but intense micro-races in which riders compete on stationary bikes for the best sprint times. The restaurant, which borrowed the idea from Rex Cycles, hopes to raise money for the Sacramento Velodrome initiative.

Rex Cycles at Rapha Gentlemen’s Race

A team of six from Rex Cycles got to participate in this year’s Rapha Gentlmen’s Race. A film and discription of last year’s race can be found here http://www.rapha.cc/2010-nw-gentlemens-race. Rapha not only makes really nice clothing, they also put on really fun events. Our team was the first of 28 to complete the 130 mile course. Our prize for 10 hours of pavement and gravel: 28 cases of beer and great memories of beautiful scenery and hard riding! Big thanks to Tad Bell, Pete Burnett, Chris Courtney, Chris Husing and Greg Talbert for joining me. It was a blast!

	Create In Cal Cycling Club was founded by HOT ITALIAN, Rex Cycles, and Whitworth Cycles to explore our regions farms, breweries, wineries, and other local makers-of-things, such as cheese, olive oil, bikes, furniture, etc…

Our first destination will be Bear Republic Brewing Co. On Sunday, 7/24/11 we will be doing a 50ish mile moderate loop from Healdsburg starting at 10am. The goal will be to be back at the brew pub by 2pm for brewery tour, tasting and lunch.

We’ll meet at Flying Goat Coffee (corner of Center and Plaza) at 10am. There is a public lot behind Bear Republic (enter from North or W. Matheson St.) and a Safeway lot at Vine and W. Matheson. Bring a friend, it is going to be fun!

Rex Ride for the American River Parkway

The Bicycle Film Festival is here, brought to you by Hot Italian! Along with the Amgen Tour of California this is a very big weekend! Roller racing by Savage Sprints tonight starting at 6 p then films at Fremont Park at 9 p and tomorrow trick show starts at 4 p, Steve Rex film premiere at 9 p at Fremont Park! All free, and free bike valet parking! See you all at 16th and Q!

KZZO-NOW 100.5 will be at our shop on Thursday 4/28 12N-1pm for a 1 hour van hit. They will have a register to win box for customers to enter the contest to win an Amgen Tour package: 2 tickets to the event and hospitality tent, plus 2 nights lodging in Tahoe for May 15-16.

The North American Handmade Bicycle Show is coming to Sacramento next year! Congratulations to Rick Houston and everyone else who was instrumental in bringing the show to town. It is going to be a fantastic event! It will also coincide with Rex Cycles 25th Anniversary!

Holiday Party and Roller Races!

Saturday Dec. 11, 5-9 pm. We are having a party in conjunction with the introduction of the Sacramento Valley Velodrome project, which is led by our own Dean Alleger. Dino has has made a Gold Sprints-style roller racing set up to use as a fund raising and promo tool for the project. Come by to ride, cheer or both! We’ll have some beverages, snacks and lots of fun!

CVSPIN and Tour de Palm Springs gave away more than $170,000 to local charities in 2010.
